Phil Minton ist ein Pionier der erweiterten Stimmtechnik, in verschiedenen Ensembles seit 40 Jahren. Diesmal mit der Cellistin und Vokalistin Audrey Chen im Duo.
Die Violinistin Biliana Voutchkova, aktiv sowohl in der Neuen Musik als auch in der improvisierten Musik, arbeitet solistisch sowie in interdisziplinären Projekten mit Tanz und Video. Der Gitarrist David Stackenäs und Bassist Gunnar Lettow erweitern ihre Instrumente mit Effektgeräten und verschiedenen Objekten.

Audrey Chen is a Chinese-American musician who was born into a family of material scientists, doctors and engineers, outside of Chicago in 1976. She is using the cello, voice and occasional analog electronic. Chen’s work delves deeply into her own version of narrative and non-linear storytelling. A large component of her music is improvised and her approach to this is extremely personal and visceral. Her playing explores the combination and layering of the homemade analog synthesizer, preparations and traditional and extended techniques in both the voice and cello. She works to join these elements into a singular ecstatic personal language.
Over the past decade, her predominant focus has been her solo work with the cello, voice and electronics, but she has more recently begun to shift back towards the exploration of the voice as a primary instrument

Phil Minton comes from Torquay. He played trumpet and sang with the Mike Westbrook Band in the early 60s. Minton is a highly dramatic baritone who tends to specialize in literary texts: he has sung lyrics by William Blake with Mike Westbrook’s group, Daniil Kharms and Joseph Brodsky with Simon Nabatov, and extracts from James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake with his own ensemble. Between 1987 and 1993 Minton toured Europe, North America and Russia with Lindsay Cooper’s Oh Moscow ensemble.
He is perhaps best known, however, for his completely free-form work, which involves „extended techniques“ that are extremely unsettling. His vocals often include the sounds of retching, burping, screaming, and gasping, as well as childlike muttering, whining, crying and humming; he also has an ability to distort his vocal cords to produce two notes at once.
Biliana Voutchkova ist eine Violinistin der zeitgenössischen Klassischen Musik, der Improvisation und experimenteller interdisziplinärer Projekte, im Besonderen Musik, Tanz und Video. Sie wohnt in Berlin und entwickelte sie die musikalische Balance ihrer vielschichtigen Einflüsse. Sie spielt mit zahlreichen Neue Musik Ensembles (Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Unitedberlin, Mozaik, LUX:NM), arbeitet mit verschiedene Komponisten/Improvisatoren, und wird als Solistin wahrgenommen und geschätzt. Ihre musikalische Arbeit reflektiert ein ungewöhnlich weites Spektrum an Einflüssen und Prägungen. Biliana nähert sich der zeitgenössischen klassischen Musik mit dem Mut, der Inspiration und der großen musikalischen Freiheit, die auch ihre kraftvollen Improvisationen auszeichnen.
David Stackenäs tours as soloist and with many different groups in Europe, the US, Japan and the Middle East.
He has developed his style as an improvising guitarist with both conventional techniques and preparations on mainly acoustic guitars. Has released 3 critics´ acclaimed CDs since 2000, – the guitar (-00), bow (-06) and Separator (-09).

Gunnar Lettow erweitert den Klang des E-Basses durch unterschiedliche Präparationen wie z.B. Spieße, Klammern und Pinsel sowie den Einsatz von Effektgeräten. Aktuelle Projekte die Duos mit Gary Rouzer (Alexandria, USA) und Korhan Erel (Laptop, Istanbul), sowie mit Robert Klammer (electronics, Hamburg). Er spielt regelmässig in ad-hoc-Besetzungen (u.a. mit Ernesto Rodrigues, Hermann Müntzing, Carl-Ludwig Hübsch, Nicolas Wiese, Ofer Bymel). Seit 2010 organisiert die Konzertreihe „Frequenzgänge“ für improvisierte und experimentelle Musik in Hamburg.
